Microsoft Windows 7 – End of Support

Windows 7 End of Support

Support for Windows 7 is nearing the end…

Windows 7 has been one of the most successful, reliable operating systems developed by Microsoft. So much so that many businesses stuck with it, rather than upgrading to Windows 8 when released. It doesn’t seem long ago that Windows 7 was launched but this occurred in October 2009, over 10 years ago! Unfortunately, good things come to an end and from 14 January 2020, Windows 7 will no longer be support by Microsoft.

What this means for your business?

When Windows 7 reaches end of support, your computer will still function, but Microsoft will no longer provide the following:

  • Technical support for any issues
  • Software updates
  • Security updates or fixes

“Microsoft made a commitment to provide 10 years of product support for Windows 7 when it was released on October 22, 2009. When this 10-year period ends, Microsoft will discontinue support so that we can focus our investment on supporting newer technologies and great new experiences” – Matt Barlow / Corporate Vice President, Windows

While you could continue to use your PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates, it will be at greater risk for viruses and malware.

Our Advise

Moving forward, our advise to best keep your PC secure is to upgrade to Windows 10. Do not leave it too late and start planning your upgrade now ahead of January 2020.
