In 2023, we’re walking 11,072 miles to raise money for Alfie’s Wish
As a team, our goal is to walk a total of 11,072 miles over the course of this year. This is the equivalent of walking the coastline of mainland Britain. We’ve all downloaded an app to help us track our walks and we each need to do the equivalent of a mile per day to hit our target. We’re also hosting group walks to help us chip away at the target and spend time together outside of work.
To raise money for Alfie’s Wish, a local charity that support the families of children with cancer.
Alfie was an amazing little boy who was diagnosed with an Ependymoma brain tumour when he was just 8 months old. This is a life-threatening brain tumour and following diagnosis he underwent lots of different gruelling treatments.
Sadly, after years of fighting, Alfie lost his battle with cancer at only 5 years old.
His parents James & Charlotte set up Alfie’s Wish in his legacy to help support other children with cancer. The charity supports children (aged 0-16 years) in the UK with cancer by sending them on family days out to make memories together at a UK destination.
For Alfie’s family, having these special memories to look back on always helps to make them smile when they’re feeling sad. So, they want to help other families make these valuable memories too. All donations help Alfie’s Wish fund these special days out.
To help boost our total, on 4th June, 12 members of the CIM team undertook a Marathon Walking Challenge.
Starting in Southampton, they walked along the Itchen Way to Winchester and back.
The walk took just under 10 hours and the team all did absolutely brilliantly!
