Replace Component
Open: Bill of Materials > Utilities > Maintenance > Replace Components
The Replace Component screen allows users to replace one stock item with another across multiple records within Cim200.
This tool provides a fast and reliable way to update Bills of Materials and Works Orders when a component has been superseded or substituted, while maintaining the integrity of existing structures and quantities.
Find
Code – Select the stock item you wish to replace using the lookup.
Name – Displays the description of the selected component.
Replace With

Name – Displays the description of the replacement component.
Replacement Options
Use these options to determine where the replacement should be applied:
Replace on Bill of Materials
Replaces the existing component with the selected item on all active BOMs.
- Exclude bills of material on-hold – Skips BOMs currently on hold.
- Replace on operations – Applies the replacement to components linked at operation level.
Replace on Works Orders
Replaces the component on any live works orders (not complete or cancelled).
- Replace on operations – Updates operation-level component references where applicable.
Note: On works orders, only components which have not yet been issued can be replaced.
Replace on Configured Quotations
Replaces components on live configured quotations that have not been completed or cancelled.
- Replace on operations – Applies the change at operation level if required.
Unit of Measure Conversions
This grid displays all unit of measure (UOM) combinations currently used by the component being replaced.
Columns include:
Existing Unit – The current unit of measure used by the old component.
New Unit – The unit of measure that will be used for the replacement component.
Conversion Ratio – The multiplier used to convert quantities from the old component’s unit to the new one.
Precision – Defines the decimal precision used when converting quantities.
If the new item shares the same unit of measure as the existing component, the New Unit and Conversion Ratio fields will default to match (ratio = 1).
If no match exists, the system defaults to the stock unit of measure for the new item, with a conversion ratio of 1.
Users can amend the New Unit, Conversion Ratio, and Precision fields as required.
Processing
Once both components and options have been defined, Cim200 displays a record selection screen for each chosen object type (Bill of Materials and/or Works Orders).
After confirming selections:
-
The old component is removed and the new component is added in its place, maintaining the same sequence position.
-
Quantities are converted according to the defined conversion ratios and precision settings.
-
Audit records are created automatically for all replacements performed.
-
Only active versions of Bills of Material are updated when version control is enabled.
-
On Works Orders, only non-issued components are replaced.
Following completion, Cim200 will prompt the user to:
-
Re-cost affected BOMs and Works Orders, and
-
Recalculate Base Item Works Orders, if applicable.
