Location Register
The Location Register is the master list of stock locations Cim50 will accept. When you turn the register on, every screen that asks for a location — stock-record setup, goods receipts from purchase orders, traceable and multiple stock adjustments, quarantine inspections, works-order completions, BOM builds and the shop-floor terminal — restricts users to locations that are already on the list, so you can stop typos like “Warehouse” / “Warehose” / “warehouse 1” from creating ghost locations in your stock data.
Turning the register on
The register is controlled by two tick boxes on the Stock Settings tab itself, in the new Location Register section:
- Use Stock Location Register — turn the register on or off.
- Allow ad-hoc locations during stock setup and receipts — a sub-option that decides what happens when someone types a location that isn’t on the list.
The first time you tick “Use Stock Location Register” after upgrading, Cim50 pre-populates the register with the distinct locations it can already see on your stock records and traceability data. You don’t have to start with an empty list — your existing locations are carried over automatically. From that point on, anything added to the register has to be added on purpose.
Maintaining the list
The Location Register tab shows every location currently on the list in a simple grid. To add a new location, click into the empty row at the bottom of the grid and type the name. Existing locations are read-only — you cannot rename one in-place. To remove a location, highlight the row and click the Delete button at the bottom of the tab.
A location that is in use anywhere in Cim50 cannot be deleted. If you try, Cim50 will tell you the location is in use on a stock account record or on a traceability record and stop the deletion.
Ad-hoc locations
If you have ticked “Allow ad-hoc locations during stock setup and receipts” on Stock Settings, a user who types a location that isn’t on the register during stock setup, a goods receipt, an adjustment or a quarantine inspection is asked: “Location ‘X’ does not exist in the Stock Locations Register. Would you like to add this to the Stock Location Register and continue?” — Yes adds the typed location and carries on, No or Cancel rejects it.
If the sub-option is unticked, users typing an unknown location see an information message — “Location ‘X’ is not in the Stock Locations Register. Please choose a location from the register.” — and the location is cleared. They must pick from the existing list.
